The City of Fernie has announced this year’s roads and utilities works program, getting underway today, June 18.

As part of its annual works program, the City of Fernie will be rehabilitating: 4^th Avenue from 7^th Street to 11^th Street; 11^th Street from 3^rd Ave to 5^th Ave; and 10^th Street from 2^nd Ave Lane to 4^th Ave.

The works will be constructed by BA Blacktop and Bob Mitchell Excavating and will commence on June 18 and continue until approximately August 30.

“To ensure public safety, roads will be periodically closed to general traffic. Through traffic will be maintained for emergency vehicles where possible. Detour routes will be in place. Residential street parking during this time will be restricted to the adjacent avenues and lanes. Please obey posted construction signage and barricades,” the city outlined.

The infrastructure improvements feature:

• Concrete sidewalk on west side 4^thAvenue between 8^thStreet and 11^th Street;
• New roadway pavement;
• Improved roadway drainage through installation of stormwater infrastructure;
• Gravel parking lanes;
• Replacement of water and sewer mains in 2^ndAve lane, 3^rdAve lane, and 10^th Street in blocks highlighted in above map.
