Cyclist rushed to Calgary after collision with truck
A helmetless cyclist was rushed to hospital in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance after being struck by a pickup truck in Fernie last Thursday.
At approximately 9 a.m. on Sept. 1, Elk Valley RCMP, Fernie Fire Department and BC Ambulance responded to a collision at the 4th Street and 2nd Avenue intersection in Fernie between a cyclist and a pick-up truck.
The female cyclist, in her 20s, was not wearing a helmet and was transported by STARS for medical care in Calgary and has since been released from hospital.
The female driver of the pickup truck who is also in her 20s was not injured.
“Police would like to remind cyclists that wearing a helmet is not only mandatory in British Columbia, but it may prevent serious injuries if involved in a collision,” said Sgt. Will Thien, Interim Detachment Commander of Elk Valley RCMP.
