Fernie Council Connection

The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the Nov. 14 City of Fernie council meeting.

1. Agreements, Permits

FernieBW1.1 Development Variance Permit Application No. DVPA- 398 Schickedanz Properties BC Ltd., Inc. No. 562570 – Best Western 1622 – 7th Avenue  Council approved the application and gave notice of their intention to consider the issuance of Development Variance Permit Application No. DVP- 398 to Schickedanz Properties B.C. Ltd., Inc. No. 562570. The application will come back to the November 28 regular meeting for council’s consideration.

2. Other

2.1 Appointment of Chief Administrative Officer & Corporate Officer. Council appointed Mr. Norm McInnis, as Chief Administrative Officer and Corporate Officer for the City of Fernie effective November 1.

3. Bylaws

3.1 Public Hearing for Bylaw No. 2306, cited as Zoning Bylaw No. 1750, Amendment Bylaw No. 185, 2016. Council gave third reading and referred the bylaw to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for approval. If approved this will rezone the property at 861-9th Avenue from R1 – Single Family Residential to R1B – Single Detached Plus Residential.

3.2 Business Licencing and Regulation Bylaw 2028, Amendment No. 4, Bylaw No. 2311, 2016 and Inter-Community Business Licence Bylaw 2308, 2016. Council gave first three readings to Business Licencing and Regulation Bylaw No. 2028, Amendment No. 4, Bylaw No. 2311, 2016; and third reading to the Inter-Community Business Licence Bylaw No. 2308, 2016. If approved this will establish an inter-community business licensing scheme between the Districts of Elkford & Sparwood and the City of Fernie.

Monday, November 21 – Special Budget Meeting at10 a.m. in council chambers.

Tuesday, November 22 – Special Budget Meeting at 4 p.m. in council chambers.

Thursday, November 24 – Town Hall Meeting at Mugshots Café (592 3rd Avenue) from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Monday, November 28 – Committee of the Whole Meeting at 10 a.m. and Regular Council Meeting at 7 p.m.

4.4 Deadline for Submission for Festival and Event Funding   The deadline for submission of completed applications for the Resort Municipality Initiative Festival and Event Development program for the 2017 fiscal year is November 30. Further application intakes may be offered later in 2017 if funding permits.
