The City of Fernie wishes to congratulate the staff and volunteers of the Fernie Heritage Library as recipients of the 2020 George S. Majic Spiritus Award.

This is the first time in the award’s history that the Spiritus Award has been presented not to an individual but to a group or organization.

The Spiritus Award is presented annually by the City of Fernie in memory of George S. Majic to those who demonstrate commitment to the community through their love of Fernie. From the library’s nomination: “We cannot think of anyone who has brought more smiles, more frequently, to so many people (all ages included!) within the last 6 months than the staff and volunteers at the library.”

Library staff and volunteers will be formally recognized at the regular meeting of council on October 26.

“As Mayor, it is particularly gratifying to recognize those in our community who contribute without the expectation of reward. The library’s staff and volunteers enhance and enrich our community as a whole and I am proud to congratulate them on this honour,” said Mayor Ange Qualizza.

In addition to the award, the City of Fernie will make a donation to the Fernie Food Bank on behalf if the library.
