Fernie re-opens outdoor spaces for rental

The City of Fernie announced June 26 that it is once again allowing limited rental of outdoor spaces and amenities for organized activities that are permitted under current provincial COVID-19 pandemic guidelines.

City staff will be working with user groups to ensure that they are complying with all provincial requirements and have the required plans in place to operate during COVID-19, the city outlined on its website.

“The Mountain Market is one of the familiar summer offerings that you will see operating starting in early July. This year, it will be running with the singular goal of providing our community with access to local food and artisan product,” the city said.

“Farmers’ markets were declared an essential service by the province and are exempt from the mass gathering order (50 people maximum). However, they must comply with physical distancing requirements and hygienic practices, and they will actively be discouraging people using the market as a social gathering place.”

Indoor Recreation Facilities remain closed in the city while it reviews sector guidelines, engages key stakeholders on their projected use of the facilities, and works through re-opening strategies, the city added.

An update on a recommended re-opening timeline for indoor facilities will come before city council in late July or early August.
