Fernie SAR rescue injured hiker

What’s a long weekend in the mountains of southeastern British Columbia without a volunteer search and rescue (SAR) unit being called out to help someone(s) in need?

True to form, Fernie SAR was called out on the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 1 to respond to an injured hiker on the Spineback Trail at Island Lake Lodge.

The hiker, a 61-year-old female from Montreal, Quebec had slipped and rolled her ankle, breaking a bone.

Fernie SAR’s CDFL Team responded with Ascent Helicopters to stabilize the injury and extract the injured person who was transferred to BC Ambulance Service in Fernie and then to hospital.
