Fernie’s annual Spring Clean Up underway

The City of Fernie is once again offering residential households free pick up of lawn and garden waste.

City crews will be picking up grass clippings, brush, weeds and small tree branches less than six inches (15.25 cm) in diameter beginning today, May 19 in the Annex area.

In order to take advantage of this opportunity you must have garden waste on the curb by 7 a.m. on your pickup day in the same location as regular garbage pick-up in all areas, except the Annex and Maintown, which will be picked up in the alley.

Garden waste must be bagged in clear plastic bags, and tree branches securely bundled, tied and piled so they can be picked up by a loader. Household garbage will not be picked up.

Household refuse and reusable/recyclable goods pick up for seniors

If you have large items of household refuse or recyclable/reusable goods that you wish to have hauled away, the city will pick up and dispose of these items during the Annual Spring Clean Up. This free service is just for seniors (65 years and older) and you must register in advance by calling City Hall.

Approved items must be on the curb by 7 a.m. on your pickup date.
