Fernie’s Outdoor Community Rink now open

The City of Fernie this afternoon announced the Outdoor Community Rink is now open.

Located adjacent to the Fernie Aquatic Centre at 250 Pine Avenue, the Outdoor Community Rink is an NHL-size natural ice rink (200 by 85 feet).

The rink opened in 2017, thanks to generous donations from theĀ Calgary Flames Foundation, National Hockey League (NHL), Canadian Arena Products, the Fernie Lions Club and numerous community donors.

The Outdoor Community Rink is a natural ice surface and therefore conditions regularly fluctuate due to weather.

City of Fernie staff and volunteers monitor the rink daily and work hard to manage varying conditions and keep the rink open for the community to safely enjoy.Ā Hours of operation: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily.

All closures are posted on site.Ā When the rink is closed due to poor ice conditions, a closed sign is posted at the entrance, and a red flag is up.

There is no cost for drop-in public skating. Please noteĀ there is no attendant on siteĀ and the public is asked to respect the schedule, posted rules for use, and all closures to ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone. A porta-pottie is available for use at this facility.
