Finding Fontinalis showing a fundraiser in Fernie

What do you say when the director of Fish for Patagonia contacts you and wants to screen their new feature film called Finding Fontinalis in Fernie as a way of giving back to a community that cares for wild trout and our watershed?

“YES we’d love the opportunity!” said Lee-Anne Walker, Elk River Alliance (ERA) Executive Director. “We are thrilled to host the local screening at the Vogue Theatre in Fernie, Wednesday, August 30 at 7 p.m.”

Community members who love fishing and the Elk River, or just like a good story and amazing cinematography, are invited to join ERA and watch this inspirational documentary. The film explores how the search for a new world record brook trout in Argentina ultimately leads the anglers involved on a mission to conserve and protect much more than just the fish itself. Filmed in Canada, Argentina, Montana, California and Florida it has been received to audience acclaim.

“Bart Bonime, Patagonia’s Director of Fish, is out in our watershed experiencing the amazing trout of the Elk River. He will be on hand to introduce the film and participants can also win some cool swag,” Walker said.

“The 70-minute feature film brings the incredible story to Elk River conservation minded audiences,” said filmmaker Travis Lowe, who will also be on hand for the screening.

The event is also an ERA fundraiser to support community-based water monitoring and stewardship activities on Lizard and Alexander Creeks. ERA will have silent auction items in the lobby of the Vogue Theatre for bidding. Tickets are $20 and available from Polar Peek Books, Elk River Guiding Company, Vogue Theatre, Elk River Alliance and at the door.
