Food matters. The decisions we make as individuals, as a community and as a country about food have a direct impact on our health, environment, economy, and communities.

Working together, we can put more affordable, safe, healthy, food on tables across the country, while protecting the environment. The Government of Canada is asking Canadians for their views on what should be included in A Food Policy for Canada.

A Food Policy for Canada will provide a plan to reach food related goals that impact health, environment, culture, and the economy. A Food Policy for Canada will give us clear actions we can take right now to reach these goals. A food policy is a way to fix problems related to the entire food system which includes the way food is grown, produced, processed, delivered, consumed and wasted.

Wildsight Elk Valley and Interior Health will be partnering to host a Community Hall in Fernie. We want to bring diverse voices to the table to talk about food so we can have our community’s opportunities and needs reflected in the development of this policy.

Join us at our Community Hall to share and explore how we can build a better food system in Fernie, the Elk Valley and across Canada.

“Collecting feedback from our region that highlights the unique benefits and challenges of our local food system is integral to achieving representation of rural and remote communities in A Food Policy for Canada. With a national food policy in place, we hope that our local leaders will follow the Federal Government’s lead and make a municipal and/or regional food policy for the Elk Valley and the East Kootenay a priority,” said Tanya Malcolm, Secretary Wildsight Elk Valley.
