IH declares Fernie area COVID-19 cluster contained

Interior Health (IH) this afternoon reported the Fernie area COVID-19 community cluster has been contained.

A final total of 97 cases were connected to this cluster. No new cluster cases were identified since Jan. 31 and all confirmed cases have now recovered, IH said in an update.

“Interior Health is thankful for the support of local physicians, health care staff, elected officials, community leaders and residents who pulled together to limit further COVID-19 exposures after the cluster was declared in late January.

“Cases of COVID-19 are still possible in Fernie and other communities. The transmission related to this community cluster occurred at social events and gatherings so Interior Health reminds everyone that socialization at this time must be limited to immediate household bubbles.”

People in all communities should remain vigilant in following COVID-19 precautions:

  • Keep to your household bubbles and avoid social gatherings.
  • Stay home when you are sick and get tested if you have any symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
  • Practise physical distancing.
  • Wear a mask.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Avoid all non-essential travel.
