May at the Fernie Heritage Library

For Families: May 16 – 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Baby Block Party. Meet the new kids and their caregivers and enjoy square themed fun!

For Adults: May 30, 8 p.m. Booked! Fernie Writer’s Series presents author Marina Endicott.

For All Ages: May 29, 4 p.m. Ride with Librarians (pictured above) -a leisurely bike ride to celebrate bikes, books and community!

Family Programming   

Storytime (Ages 3-5 years) Tuesdays 11:15-11:45 a.m.

Stories, singing and activities for preschoolers and their caregivers.

Toddlertime (Ages 0-2 years) Wednesdays 11:15-11:45 a.m.

Singing, simple stories and fingerplays for babies and their caregivers.

Storytime Social (Ages 0-5 years) Fridays at 11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

We know parents need time to socialize too! Join us for storytime then stay for a coffee social and grown-up conversation in the activity room. Families, siblings and caregivers all welcome!

Baby Block Party – Thursday, May 16 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ( 0-18 months and caregivers). A social morning of exploration and activities made with boxes, blocks and square-shaped fun! This program is for babies 0-18 months and their caregivers. SQUARE theme potluck to follow (square crackers, cubed cheese, cubed fruit, chocolate etc.)

PJ Story time GARDENS (Ages 3+ and caregivers) Thursday, May 23, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

A  Pyjama storytime for you and your stuffie and family! Join Ms Anie and Ms Jodie (from Fernie Early Years) for an hour of songs, activities, stories and snacks all about gardens!

Senior Storytime (for all ages with seniors and local preschoolers / kindergarteners.)

Rocky Mountain Village Serenity Room: Wed., May 8 at 1 p.m.

Trinity Lodge: Wed., May 22 at 1:30 p.m.

All community seniors and children welcome to attend!

Children’s Activities for Grades 1-6  

All participants must have a valid Jr library membership and signed waiver to attend any library programming.

Tuesdays 3:45-4:45 p.m. KNITS AND KNOTS (DROP IN, ages 8+). For crafty kids who love to knit, crochet or want to learn! All materials and basic instruction is provided. Completed projects can be taken home!

Wednesdays  3:45-4:45 p.m. Lego Club (DROP IN, ages 7+). Those who love a weekly STEAM challenge, come build with Lego.

NEW: Reading Buddies

Do you have a child who is reluctant to read, who would love to snuggle up to a giant stuffy, with their own selection of books and read aloud? Introducing  Reading Buddies. We have rescued four soft and snuggly animals who love to be read to! Children will be asked to take these animals out for reading breaks (under the supervision of an adult) in order to get some one on one time to practice reading in front of a soft and friendly reading companion. Reading buddy animals are waiting to be read to: come to the library to read to one today! Please check our website and Facebook page for updates

Adult Programming

CYBER SENIORS Wednesdays, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Drop-in.

Are you a senior that is keen to learn about their ipad, laptop or has questions about their gmail account, the app store or youtube? Come join us on Wednesdays and succeed in unravelling some of some of these mysteries in technology.

#WriteItDown: Thursday, May 9 at 6:30-7:45 p.m. TOPIC: “My Muse.”

Are you a writer looking for inspiration and a chance to connect with others? Join our monthly gathering of those who keen to write, share and learn. Facilitated by local writers, poets, songwriters, bloggers, editors and journallers. All writers welcome!  A safe place to read and/or share aloud what you have written and listen to the creative words of others.

Booked! Fernie Writers’ Series: Marina Endicott: Thursday, May 30 7 p.m.

Join the award winning author of Good to a Fault and The Little Shadows, as she reads from, Close to Hugh. Doors open at 7, reading begins at 8 p.m. Live music, beer and wine cash bar. Donations appreciated.

Tea and Talk Book Club: Friday, May 31 at 1:30 p.m. This month’s book is Moonglow by Michael Chabon. Copies of the book are available for sign out from the library.

All Ages Programming

Donuts with Dad (all ages) Saturday, May 4th, 2-3:30 p.m.

Have a little one on one with dad (uncle/grandpa/friend). We provide the donuts, and stack of books and activities, you bring someone to enjoy it with!

Ride with Librarians: Wednesday, May 29 4-5:30 p.m.

Join Fernie Heritage Library librarians as we hop on our bikes to launch our Fernie Book Bike Programs.  We will meet in the library garden with our bikes, on a scheduled yet leisurely route around town and ending with a hot dog BBQ and social in the library garden. All bikes and riders welcome to join us for the entire ride, or at pick-up spots along the way. See FB event or email [email protected] for details.
