Fire reported east of Hosmer

Wildfires are starting to spring up around British Columbia thanks to lingering heat and lightning.

A total of 39 new fires are being reported by BC Wildfire Service across the province in the past two days.

In the East Kootenay, there is one new fire to report in the past 24 hours – located in Leach Creek, about half a km north of Corbin Road, about 14 km east of Hosmer and one km from the Alberta border.

The suspected lightning caused fire is estimated at about .10 hectares.

BC Wildfire Service’s wildfire activity page notes two older fires are still on the books in the region, including the under control .04-ha Wickman Creek fire south of Cranbrook and west of Newgate and the under control Whitetail Lake south fire, at .30-ha.
