District seeks input on off-leash dog parks
The District of Sparwood is seeking input from the public on the possible development of one or more off-leash dog parks in town.
Currently, the municipality is investigating options for a dog park in lower Sparwood, and one in Sparwood Heights.
“We value the input from our residents on their preferences and concerns related to off-leash dog parks. Right now, off-leash dogs are not permitted in the district, so creating one or more off-leash parks would provide dog owners with a safe place for their dogs to play and socialize,” noted Nelson Wight, district Manager of Planning.
“An off-leash dog park in Sparwood will improve the quality of life not only for dogs and dog-owners in Sparwood, but also for the broader community as it will direct these park users to a safe place for dogs to play off-leash. We have heard from residents about the need for these areas and now we need input from residents to make sure any future dog parks will suit the needs of all park users,” added Acting Mayor Joe Jarina.
A survey has been created to get input from residents. It is available at www.Sparwood.ca/dogparks and in hard copy at the Main Office (136 Spruce Avenue) and Recreation & Leisure Centre (367 Pine Avenue).
The district also welcomes comments via [email protected] and it’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Completed surveys will be accepted until September 15.
