At noon today a ceremony to mark the Workers Day of Mourning will take place at Titan Park in Sparwood. The ceremony will also mark the unveiling of the Miners’ Memorial Wall, which contains the names of the 181 miners who have lost their lives mining coal in the Sparwood – Elkford area mines.

“This project is the second part of a project, which saw the unveiling of a bronze miner on the 50th Anniversary of the Balmer North explosion which took the lives of 15 men on April 3, 1967,” noted District of Sparwood chief administrative officer Terry Melcer.
