Sparwood darts team wins spot at Legion Provincials

A four-man team from the Michel-Natal Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) in Sparwood will represent the East Kootenay at the B.C. RCL Provincial Dart Championships for the first time.

Gilles Bouffard, Shayne Laible, Pat Glynn and Kory Hamborg took first place at the Zone Dart Competition in Invermere Feb. 8-9, earning them their spot at the provincials in Courtenay, B.C. March 20-22. The four teamed up after winning the top spots at the local dart finals in January.

While this will be the first four-man team from Sparwood to compete at that level, Laible has gone to provincials before as a singles player. Glynn, who is going for the first time, says he’s excited because the team will compete against approximately 20 other teams from across B.C.

“It’s going to be a good time, and it’s good to have some different competition; it’s going to be some good darts,” he said.

To help fund their trip the Sparwood Legion will host a free jam night, Saturday, Feb. 29. Live music from The Banned, a local group, will highlight the evening, and there will be pulled pork on a bun for $5, and a 50/50 draw. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. and you don’t have to be a legion member to attend.
