Sparwood Mayor and Council Update for April 22

The District of Sparwood, along with the Futures Society, are looking at ways to open up the campground while following all of the rules put in place by the provincial government. We believe that since the province is allowing private campgrounds to be open it is only fair that we allow our campground to be open under the same rules as private campgrounds.

As for golf courses, which are being allowed to open by the province, here are the rules that they must follow.

All businesses that are still operating are expected to:
• Limit the number of people using the golf course (including employees) to less than 50 people;
• Exclude employees and customers who have travelled in the last 14 days;
• Exclude employees and customers who are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19;
• Not allow people to congregate in groups;
• Maintain physical distancing;
• Clean and sanitize common touched surfaces often (regularly throughout the day);
• Provide signage to remind people of the requirements, encourage good handwashing and respiratory hygiene;
• Ensure washrooms remain available for use, are cleaned/sanitized a couple of times a day, and are well stocked.
Further considerations for golf courses include:
• Keep playing groups at least one hole apart (i.e. reduce number of available tee times to decrease number of players on the course);
• Signage / posters on best practices (physical distancing, don’t play if ill, use good hygiene practices wash hands, have extra hand sanitizer dispensers, practice respiratory hygiene, etc.);
• Regular disinfection of high touch surfaces – e.g. disinfect carts after each use;
• Do not allow shared carts;
• Do not provide dine-in service (take-out and delivery only);
• Provide methods to ensure two metres separation in clubhouse at check-in prior to tee time. Limit numbers entering buildings.
and restrict other activities to ensure guests are moved through the facility promptly.

Kootenay East Regional Hospital District board chair and District of Elkford Mayor Dean McKerracher and myself had a tour of the Sparwood Primary Health Care Facility (pictured above) this morning and the work that our health care professionals are doing at this facility.

All I can say is that if you require medical help you will be in good hands with all of the people working there. We were extremely impressed with how the facility is set up for different types of emergencies. Thank you to all our front-line health responders.

If you are out getting some fresh air and exercise remember to practice social distancing of two metres or six feet.
