Valley chambers hosting all-candidates’ forum Oct. 15

The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Sparwood and Elkford Chambers of Commerce to co-host an Elk Valley Provincial Candidate Forum ahead of the BC provincial election.

The forum will be held virtually as a Zoom webinar and will also be live streamed on the Fernie Chamber Facebook page starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 15.

All three candidates are confirmed to participate – incumbent Tom Shypitka (BC Liberals), Wayne Stetski (NDP) and Kerri Wall (Green Party).

The candidate forum will be moderated by Thomas Skelton who is the Vice Principal of Rocky Mountain Elementary School in Elkford. Youth representatives from Rocky Mountain Elementary will also participate in the event by introducing each candidate.

The format will include a two-minute opening speech from each candidate, followed by a series of questions which each candidate will have two minutes to respond to. A 60-second rebuttal will be granted by the moderator as necessary, and each candidate will have a further two minutes at the conclusion of the evening for closing remarks.

Citizens and businesses in the Elk Valley can send proposed questions to ask the candidates to [email protected] for consideration. It is expected the candidate forum will be approximately one and a half hours in duration.

Tune into the candidate forum on Zoom. (Webinar ID: 856 2296 1826).
