Alternative bluegrass quintet Live at Studio 64

Rotary Park, a harmony-driven alternative bluegrass quintet from Calgary, will be the next band in the ‘Live at Studio 64’ spring concert series line-up.
This energetic young band, formed in 2011 by a group of friends and fellow buskers, will bring its combination of folk music, vocal harmonies, and bluegrass, a repertoire that the band calls “progressive Canadiana,” to the stage in Studio 64 on Friday evening, April 19, starting at 8 p.m.
The band, which has toured coast-to-coast in Canada three times, comprises Alex Ginella on vocals, guitar, fiddle, harmonica, and mandolin; Nick McRae on vocals, mandolin, and percussion; Liam Testa on vocals and guitar; Matt Coldwell on vocals and double bass; and Tanner Day on vocals and banjo. Rotary Park has a couple of albums out, a self-named debut album recorded in 2012 and “Be”, recorded in 2014. They write most, if not all, of their own material.
The band is well known around Calgary and western Alberta, playing regularly at Mikey’s on 12th Avenue and other Calgary locations, including a performance at the Calgary Folk Music Festival, and with recent appearances in Nanton, Pincher Creek, and Fernie. This will be their first visit to Kimberley.
This is the second concert in this year’s Live at Studio 64 spring series. The first, by the Lizzie Hoyt trio, was an outstanding success and this promises to be the same. The third and final concert in this year’s spring series will feature the Boston-based band, Dead Flowers, on May 25 in a concert entitled ‘Rolling Through Stones Country’, a tribute to the music of the Rolling Stones, with blues, R & B, and a little bit of country.
