Conference centre hosts largest dinner event ever
A busy weekend for the Kimberley Conference Centre
For the second year in a row Kimberley played host to the Provincial Mine Rescue and First Aid Competition.
Combined with a zone competition on Thursday the event (pictured) drew over 600 people to Kimberley for multiple day events boosting the local economy by an estimated $450,000.
This made for a busy weekend for the Kimberley Conference Centre. Events started Thursday night with an awards dinner for 160 Zone competitors.
On Friday the Conference Centre was transformed to accommodate a Mining Industry Trade show and cocktail reception for four hundred guests. As a grand finale an awards banquet was held on Saturday night, which saw 450 competitors and guests flock to the Conference Centre to recognize and applaud the provincial competitors.
After days of preparation Executive Chef Jenn Norris and her team served a succulent prime rib dinner that was perfectly cooked from the first to last plate. Award ceremonies followed before Ray Gareau from Ray’s Music lit up the dance floor with hours of contagious dance music. Ray reported – It was “absolutely fantastic. I never had a lull all night. They danced till the very end.”
This was the largest dinner event ever held in the Conference Centre Ballroom and staff had to be creative to arrange seating for so many. It was a great opportunity to test the capacity of the building and find that the fire limit of 500 people in the Ballroom for dinner is a reality.
Sunday gave staff an opportunity to clean and reset for the United Steelworkers Union Summer School running in the Conference Centre Monday to Thursday of this week.
On Friday the Centre will be transformed again in preparation for a wedding on Saturday with 180 guests followed by the Selkirk Secondary School graduation celebrations on Friday June 23.
