One of the great legends of Canadian music is coming to Kimberley May 18.

Vancouver’s D.O.A. are on a 40^th anniversary tour that will take them through Nelson’s Spirit Bar on Friday, May 17 and then to Kimberley’s Elks Lodge ( (240 Howard St.) on Saturday, May 18.

D.O.A. is considered one of the founders of ‘hardcore punk,’ though sole remaining original member Joey (Shithead) Keithley is now a City of Burnaby council member.

“I’ve been a cultural politician all my life, or an unofficial politician, now I’ve merely gone from that to official,” Keithley told the Squamish Chief newspaper last November.

The always outspoken and courageous Keithley still brings it on stage, though. This is a show not to be missed.

“Bandleader Joe Keithley has nailed Vancouver’s name into the ironclad pages of rock and roll history with his political activism, his buzzsaw guitar riffery, and a long history of berserk live shows (thousands and thousands of them), and this performance backed with the killer rhythm section of bassist Mike Hodsall and drummer Paddy Duddy should be no different – and no less thrilling,” said Cranbrook musician (current member of Bif Naked’s band) and local writer Ferdy Belland.

Also appearing is Kimberley’s much-beloved punk-metal-Celtic-whatsit upstarts Elk Hunt (featuring guitarist Kevin Honeyman, bassist Brian Morris, bagpiper Noah Wesche, and drummer Colin Righton), who are well worth the price of admission on their own.
