Dynamiters great joins Las Vegas Nevada Rebels

The University of Las Vegas Nevada Rebels have netted the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s (KIJHL) most valuable player – Kimberley Dynamiters’ star Brock Palmer.

In an Instagram post announcing the commitment on June 26, the Rebels said, “Brock’s scoring touch will be a huge asset for UNLV in 20-21.”

The Rebels play in the American Collegiate Hockey Association, Division 1.

Palmer, of Coaldale, Alta., completed his three-year career with the Kimberley Dynamiters as their all-time leading scorer. In 141 career regular season games, Palmer finished with 102 goals and 237 points. This season Palmer set career highs in goals (50) and points (98). He added another 15 goals and 62 points in 45 playoff games.

“It’s obviously very rewarding and a fun milestone to reach,” said Palmer of those career high numbers.

Palmer feels lucky enough to be a student-athlete at such an awesome school.

“It’s going to be a very fun experience,” said Palmer. “I believe it is going to be a good fit because of the very welcoming coaching staff and the great things players have said about the school and the team.”

Palmer, who plans to study education to become a teacher, says he’s excited to meet his teammates and experience the atmosphere of the rink.

“I know we practise in the same rink (City National Arena) right after the (Vegas) Golden Knights so that will be cool to watch them practise and maybe meet some of the players,” he said.

As for his play this season, Palmer felt he performed fairly well. He credits the amazing team he played on to perform his best every game. He became smarter and was a faster player.

Palmer added that playing with great players in Kimberley helped push him to improve on and off the ice.

“I greatly enjoyed my time in the league and I will cherish the memories I made in Kimberley for the rest of my life,” he said.
