Evacuation Order for 65 properties in St. Mary Valley

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) has issued an evacuation ORDER for 65 properties in
Electoral Area E in the St. Mary Lake area.

“High winds and an increase in fire behaviour have prompted the BC Wildfire Service to
recommend the RDEK issue an Evacuation Order,” explains EOC Director Terry Balan. “Our first
priority is public safety. These decisions are not made lightly and everyone within the evacuation
order area needs to leave immediately.”

The evacuation ORDER area includes:

• St Mary’s Lake area from the West boundary of the City of Kimberley to the Redding
Creek / St Mary’s River convergence including St Mary’s Lake Road and Lakefront Road.

“Residents in the evacuation ORDER zone are being asked to register with the Emergency Reception Centre at Centennial Hall, located at 100 4th Avenue in Kimberley,” added Balan.

The evacuation ORDER covers the same area as the ALERT that had been in place for the past few days.

The Emergency Information Line remains set up at 250-426-2188 or toll free 1-855-346-2188 and information is available on the RDEK’s website at: www.rdek.bc.ca.
