Fire at Selkirk Secondary School extinguished

At 8:06 a.m. August 29, the Kimberley Fire Department responded to a call from Selkirk Secondary School at 405 Halpin Street for a structural fire.

The Fire Department Command Unit was first to arrive and downgraded the alarm to an electrical fire in the school gymnasium. Firefighters on scene ensured that the fire did not spread to the structure of the building.

There was minimal structural damage with mid-level smoke contamination to the gymnasium, and no injuries to School District personnel or responders.

Fire department personnel remained on scene until 9:27 a.m. and declared the fire extinguished, the City of Kimberley reported this morning.
