First Saturdays returns August 5

Kimberley’s First Saturdays is back on August 5 for another amazing day packed with activities and entertainment celebrating the arts.

Here is the line-up:

Platzl Area

Rotary Pancake Breakfast

9-11 a.m. Yummy breakfast happening in the Platzl

Second annual Kimberley Bed Race

At 10:30 a.m. at Centre 64 – Get your team together and support a great cause. It is only $80 for a team of five to enter, and with a limit of eight teams and four prizes, your chances are good! Beds are supplied and teams will be given a brief opportunity to decorate their beds before each race.

There are some amazing prizes courtesy of Montana’s, The Sullivan Pub, The Marysville Pub and The Elks. All proceeds from this event will go to Centre 64’s Give Us a Lift Campaign to install an accessibility lift to the theatre at Centre 64. More information here or Centre 64 (250) 427-4919

12-4 p.m.

Live entertainment, Art Market, face painting, kids creative activities and much more.

Art Demonstration – Sculpted forged metal painting.

Interactive Wall – What Art Means to You. Located on the wall of the old Gausthaus Restaurant, this is an opportunity participants to write messages about what they love about art, impacts that it has on them, or even do a little of their own art.

Around Town

Kimberley Nature Park – Gateway to Nature Hike 9-11 a.m. Meet at the Riverside Campground Entrance for an introductory hike.

High Tea at the Chateau Kimberley 12-3 p.m. This is an amazing afternoon tea, Kootenay style. Catered by the United Church, there is often an artist on site and live entertainment. A great way to sit and enjoy the surroundings at the Chateau Kimberley, and we promise you won’t leave hungry. Just $10.

Marysville Artisans Sidewalk Art Market 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Art Exhibit at Centre 64 1-5 p.m. This month in the Gallery its Raw Material: Elementally Female.

Artists, crossing six decades, each representing their experiences visually using a variety of raw material. Expect an edgy show of art, including installations in ceramic, metal, textiles, print, found objects and paint.

Kimberley Underground Mining Railway Tours 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3p.m.

Kimberley Heritage Museum 9 a.m. to 430 p.m. With special exhibits celebrating Canada 150.

Evening

Evening Outdoor Community Concert

It seems it wouldn’t be First Saturday without an Outdoor Concert in our event space beside Centre 64. This month we are excited by the return of Cod Gone Wild, who first performed at First Saturdays in 2014. We call it– An East Coast Kitchen Party.

Entrance to this all ages event is FREE, though donations are gratefully accepted. The Elks Lodge will have their amazing BBQ deals happening and there are refreshments.

5:45 p.m. – Local music and Summer BBQ inc. burgers, wieners, and watermelon at a great price

7:30 p.m. – Feature Concert

Bring your own chairs, blankets and dress for the weather.
