Impaired driver removed from highway this morning
Kimberley RCMP this morning (June 4) apprehended another early morning impaired driver.
At 7:45 a.m. this morning, a RCMP officer was on patrol on Highway 95A east of Kimberley when he noted a vehicle without a licence plate.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and learned the driver had obtained a temporary operating permit. But while dealing with the driver he showed signs of alcohol consumption. The breath demand was read to the driver and two breath samples were obtained; both read as a ‘Fail.’
The driver is now prohibited from driving for 90-days and the vehicle impounded for 30 days. In addition, the driver did not have a valid B.C. driver’s licence.
This was the second driver to be stopped by Kimberley RCMP for an impaired charge, in the early morning, in the last five days.
“There is a misconception that impaired drivers only come out at night. Impaired drivers are apprehended at all hours, in this case 7:45 a.m.,” said Sgt. Chris Newel, Kimberley RCMP Detachment commander.
“Drivers apprehended in the mornings often tell officers they haven’t drank since last night, but depending on how much they may have had, there still could be alcohol in their system,” he added.
