Inspiring Connections exhibit at Centre 64 now open
Opening October 27 until November 21 -in the Centre 64 Gallery and online.
Caprice is a professional oil painter and has been in business for 25 years.Ā She moved to Kimberley in 1997 and has been an active member of the Kimberley arts community. For the past decade, Caprice has been teaching art lessons through Centre 64 Art Gallery and at her Studio Gallery in Kimberley.
With the hit of the pandemic, Capriceās art lessons made a dramatic turn from teaching one-on-one to teaching classes online via Zoom. During these difficult times, art has brought people together in a way that is unlike anything else.Ā Suddenly, there was a shift in the classes from not only discussing the rules of fine art, but friendships and bonds have been established.
When things were sad, these weekly sessions were filled with laughter and joy.Ā Capriceās students call the paintings that have been produced in the past few months as āThe Covid paintingsā and they have inspired the current exhibit.Ā Capriceās previous students will also be exhibiting.
This exhibition was serendipitous, as the Gallery is fully booked until 2024.Ā When there was a cancellation, Caprice and her students jumped into action and began organizing paintings for the show.
The Kimberley Arts Council accepted their proposal and beginning on October 27, there will be more than 60 paintings from 15 of Capriceās students past and present, as well paintings from Caprice herself.Ā Caprice has not exhibited publicly outside of her studio gallery in over 15 years.Ā The paintings are a wide variety of subject matter and mediums, and show the range of students, from beginners to advanced.
A special portion of the exhibit will be dedicated to two students who have passed away.
Many in the community know of Don Davies who is not only known for his work in the education system, but also with the Don Davies Quartet.Ā He took art lessons with Caprice and sat on the Kimberley Arts Council Board.Ā A selection of his paintings will be on display, next to Nola Doironās paintings.
Nola was also very active in the local arts community and performed in the local theatre performance of āCalendar Girls.āĀ She took painting lessons with Caprice in 2013.
The exhibition will be on display at the Gallery and online through to November 21.
