Kimberley suspends backyard fire permits

The City of Kimberley announced this morning (April 7) that it is suspending all backyard fire permits until further notice.

“This will help ensure that local air quality remains as high as possible for those with respiratory concerns. It will also help reduce unnecessary calls to the Kimberley Fire Department,” the city noted on social media.

CSA-approved gas burning appliances such as outdoor barbecues and heaters are still permitted as long as they are utilized in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

“This coincides with provincial restrictions on all open fires within the region,” the city concluded.
