Proposed Kimberley to Cranbrook Commuter Service
We want to hear from you! The proposed service will begin in September 2017, running Monday to Friday, one round trip in the early morning and late afternoon. Please fill out the survey and let us know your preferences. The survey can be accessed HERE and is open until March 5.
FREE Downtown Shuttle
The Peak to Platzl downtown shuttle is a FREE scheduled service between the ski resort base area, the upper-mountain accommodations, and the downtown shops, pubs and restaurants. The shuttle service operates every day (except statutory holidays) until April 2. To view the shuttle schedule please visit www.kimberley.ca.
Free Public Swim
Come to the Aquatic Centre and enjoy a Free Public Swim on Wednesday, March 1 from 5 to 6 p.m. sponsored by Tyee Log Homes.
Snow piles around the city
We would like to remind residents of the dangers of children sliding on snow piles that accumulate from plowing and scraping the roads, especially the ones around Mark Creek. The water moves quickly in the creek and the ice is always changing, creating a dangerous area. The snow is often heavy and full of ice chunks, which can also cause injury. Please remind your children that these snow piles are not a safe place to be playing.
Preventing frozen water pipes
Did you know that frost sinks lower as the air temperature climbs higher? Now is the time to take action to prevent frozen water pipes. If the water service line to your home has ever frozen or you have noticed a reduced water flow in your home during the winter, leave one tap running cold water day and night (stream should be the size of a pencil). This will help to prevent your lines from freezing. Since frost sinks deeper into the ground when air temperatures rise after a period of extreme cold, you will need to keep the water running 24/7 until mid-April to avoid having the line freeze.
The city encourages residents who have experienced frozen water service lines in the past to be pro-active; ensure indoor lines are properly insulated; keep a good snow cover over the ground above the service lines; and install a bleeder line system. Reminder to renew your 2017 Dog Licences
2017 dog licences are now available at City Hall. The cost for a licence for your spayed or neutered dog is only $22. The fines for an unlicensed dog are $100 for the first offence, and $200 for each subsequent offence thereafter. Please help our Animal Control Officer make sure your pet gets home without a trip to the SPCA, and licence your dog today!
Business Licences are due for 2017
The city kindly requests that business licences be renewed and paid for as soon as possible. Application forms for new businesses are available at City Hall or on the city’s website. Mobile businesses can now operate in Kimberley and Cranbrook without having to apply for business licences from both municipalities. Supported by the Kimberley and Cranbrook Chambers of Commerce, this is a clear win for the busy mobile entrepreneur!
