Brownbag Lunch with Mayor McCormick
On Wednesday, May 10, and on the second Wednesday of each month, City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick will host a brown-bag luncheon at City Hall from noon until 1:30 p.m. Bring your own lunch and have a discussion with the Mayor.
Emergency Preparedness Week May 7 – 13
Is your family prepared to be on your own for 72 hours in case of an extended emergency? Emergency services may not be readily available, as increasing demands are placed on responders. It may take emergency workers some time to get to you as they help those in most critical need. Basic survival items include: two litres of water per person per day, non-perishable foods, can opener, flashlight and batteries, candles matches or a lighter, battery powered or wind-up radio, first aid kit, prescription medications, infant formula if needed, extra keys, cash in small bills, and a list of contact information. Mark Creek Water Level
Be advised that water levels can change rapidly, and are especially high during spring run-off. Flows are extremely fast when water levels are high and present an extreme danger to anyone falling in the creek..
Please stay clear of the creek during periods of high flow
Spring Yard Clean-Up
Spring Cleanup has started and continues until Friday May 12. Place spring yard waste out on the same day as your regular garbage in the same area, but please keep it separate from your household waste. Visit www.kimberley.ca to learn what can be included in your spring cleanup, and remember – only one pickup per household.
No Unauthorized Vehicles in the Platzl
Please be reminded that the Platzl is for pedestrian use only. There is no motor vehicle access permitted unless authorized by the City of Kimberley (pictured above).
Be Bear Smart
Please remember that the bears are coming out and they are hungry! The biggest attractant for bears in our community is garbage. Properly secure your garbage, and keep it indoors until pick-up, or until you can take it to the transfer station. Everyone likes the smell of a barbeque, bears included! Please remember to properly clean your BBQ after using it.
Dog Etiquette
Please keep your dog on a leash in public places within city limits, including the Rails-to-Trails. There are a few designated off-leash area within the city, please check out the website for more information. Remember to pick up your dog’s excrement on all trails, use the bags provided and place it in the receptacles. If you notice that the bag holder is empty contact the Animal Control Officer at 250-427-6460. Please be conscientious of everyone who uses the trails, as no one likes to step in dog poo! Let’s all pitch in to keep our trails clean and clear.
Kimberley Alpine Discovery Camp
New to the region, this youth camp offers urban mountain adventure and Mongolian yurt accommodations in the alpine resort area. This camp is for the curious, the inquisitive, the adventurous, fun loving camper looking for something more than Kumbaya around the campfire – think Dora the Explorer meets the Magic School Bus.
