Splash Park Grand Opening

Are you ready for some fun in the sun? The Rotary Club’s Kimberley Community Splash Park will be opening on June 25 at 1 p.m.!

Garbage cans need lids

Why does your garbage can need a tight-fitting lid? There is a link between animals eating garbage and animal aggression towards humans. When we reduce the risk of animals getting into our garbage, we reduce the risk of an animal becoming a nuisance or aggressive.  Please ensure your garbage is stored in garbage can with a tight fitting lid and in a way to prevent animals from accessing it. (Bylaw 2520, 2015, Sect. 4.4). Visit HERE to learn more about Solid Waste Collection.

Canada Day Garbage Pickup

Garbage that would normally be picked up on Monday, July 3 will be picked up on Tuesday, July 4. For more information contact the Operations & Environment Services Department at 250-427-9660 or [email protected].

City Crews and Road Work

Over the next few weeks, city crews are working on traffic calming bump-outs in the downtown core. To ensure the safety of all concerned, please keep a respectful distance (minimum 90’ / 30 m) from any city crews or contractors, open ditches and heavy equipment. Watch for and obey any signs posted. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please watch for protective female deer (does) around the city

The Animal Control/Bylaw Enforcement Officer is responding by placing signboards in neighbourhoods to warn of deer in the area. Please respect their space, stay back 15 to 20 metres, and do not approach. They will often leave their fawn from time to time in search of food; please do not feed the fawn or attempt to remove, touch or pick up the fawn for fear of abandonment. To learn more about what to do if you encounter deer, please check out our website HERE.

If you encounter an aggressive deer or other types of wildlife, please report it to the BC Conservation Officer Service at 1-250-489-8540 or toll free at 1-877-952-7277.

Mosquito Control

Mosquitos need water to complete their life cycle.  You can help reduce mosquito populations around your home by following these tips:

Remove discarded containers from your property

Replace water in birdbaths and livestock troughs regularly

Clean clogged eaves troughs, drain pipes, and ditches

Store boats, canoes or other objects so that they do not collect rainwater.
