Notes from City Hall

Council Meeting Schedule

The next Regular Meeting of City of Kimberley council for the month of August will be held on Monday, August 26 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers upstairs at City Hall. Committee-of-the-Whole Meetings will commence again in September.

Watering Reminder

The city reminds all residents that Stage 1 water restrictions remain in place. Watering must be done between the hours of 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. AND 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Residents of properties with odd-numbered addresses will water only on odd-numbered days and residents of properties with even-numbered addresses will water only on even-numbered days. Please view the City’s Water Shortage Response Bylaw for more information: http://bit.ly/2XqHuTQ

Be Bear Smart

Please remember that bears are out in search of food. The biggest attractant for bears in our community is garbage. Properly secure your garbage, and/or keep it indoors until pick-up, or until you can take it to the transfer station. Pick any fruit from your fruit trees or clean up fallen fruit from your yard, as this is another major bear attractant. Everyone likes the smell of a barbecue, bears included! Please remember to properly clean your BBQ after using it.

NorthStar Rails-to-Trails

Morning, afternoon or evening…the time is right to get out and enjoy this great trail connecting Kimberley and Cranbrook. Trail Maps and more info available at www.northstarrailtrail.com and also on Facebook. To report an issue with the condition of the trail, please contact: 250-427-9660 (Kimberley) or 250-489-0218 (Cranbrook).

Off Leash Areas

Did you know that Kimberley has three off-leash areas to exercise your animal? The Kimberley Nature Park, Lois Creek Trails and the Marysville Flats are all designated off-leash spaces. Maintaining control and cleaning up after your animal still applies in these three off-leash areas. If you are walking your pet in any other City park or playfield area, please remember that your animal must be on a leash at all times. To learn more, visit the City of Kimberley’s website and follow the link to Animal Control.

Building a new home?

Check out the City of Kimberley’s Energy Efficient Building Incentive Program. All new homes with building permits issued after January 1, 2018 are eligible for a $500 rebate to help offset the cost a pre-construction performance evaluation of the building plans. The project is then eligible for a further rebate of 10-60% of the permit fee based on the post-construction energy performance of the building. If you are building a new home in Kimberley, please visit our website or contact the Building Official at 250-427-9655 or [email protected] for more details.
