Committee-of-the-Whole Meeting
The next City of Kimberley Committee-of-the-Whole meeting will be held on September 16 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers upstairs at City Hall. The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be held on October 15. There are no scheduled meetings in late September due to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities Convention.
2020 Community Grants Program
The 2020 Community Grant Application forms are now available on the city’s website. The deadline to submit an application is October 15. Please note that all 2019 grant recipients must complete a final report to be considered for a 2020 Community Grant.
Help Keep Catch Basins Clear
Did you know that the City of Kimberley has over 700 Catch Basins? The city is asking residents to help keep your neighbourhood catch basins clear of leaves and debris. This will help to improve the storm water systems ability to collect rainwater and reduce the possibility of flooding. Please report any blocked catch basins to the Operations Department at 250-427-9660 or [email protected].
Civic Centre Update
The Civic Centre walking track is a great way to keep active rain or shine. Keep track of your laps because five laps equal one kilometre! The track is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week, excluding statutory holidays. Civic Centre Access Cards are available at City Hall for a one-time fee of $5.
Public, Parent and Tot, and Senior skating at the Civic Centre will begin the week of September 23. The Marysville Arena has a tentative opening date of Monday, October 21. City of Kimberley Hybrid Vehicle
Have you seen the Bylaw Enforcement Officer driving around town? This summer, she has been driving a new hybrid vehicle. The vehicle was filled with gasoline on June 17. As of September 3, the vehicle still had two-thirds of a tank of fuel and the cost for electrical power was approximately $17.72 for the past 2.5 months!
Speed Signs
The City of Kimberley is urging motorists to please obey all road speed signs within city limits. Please be extra cautious in school and playground zones, as school is now back in session.
Be Bear Smart
There have been multiple bear sightings around the city and on the Rails-to-Trails. Please remember that bears are out in search of food. The biggest attractant for bears in our community is garbage. Properly secure your garbage, and keep it indoors until pick-up, or until you can take it to the transfer station. Pick any fruit from your fruit trees or clean up fallen fruit from your yard, as this is another major bear attractant. Everyone likes the smell of a barbecue, bears included! Please remember to properly clean your BBQ after using it.
Free Family Swim
Come to the Aquatic Centre and enjoy a Free Family Swim on Wednesday, September 18 from 6 to 7 p.m., sponsored by Kootenay Monument Installations. Remember, persons 18 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
