Committee Volunteer Opportunity – Board of Variance

The City of Kimberley invites applications from community members interested in becoming a member of the Board of Variance. The board is responsible for reviewing and making decisions on requests to vary, or relax, development regulations such as building size and siting requirements. Building Code Information Session

The City of Kimberley is inviting building construction and design professionals to a free information session about recent changes to the BC Building & Plumbing Codes and the Kimberley Building Bylaw. The session will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13th at the Kimberley Conference Centre. The session will involve an overview presentation of key topics most relevant to our region and ample opportunities for questions and discussion. Clearing Snow and Ice

Icy sidewalks can be a hazard for everyone including seniors, children, mail carriers, meter readers, firefighters, and paramedics. As the weather warms up and then freezes again, water from melting snow can run onto cleared sidewalks.

Here are a few tips to help maintain your walkways and driveways:

• Warm weather during the day can make ice soft, so it’s easier to chip or shovel away.
• Spread sand or gravel on icy patches to make your sidewalk safer for pedestrians. Spreading sand on a sidewalk before ice forms can also make future ice easier to remove.
• Microwaving sand in a microwave-safe container and spreading it while it is still warm will make the sand embed itself into the ice, creating a gritty top layer.
• De-icing products are available at local retailers and can be helpful with ice control.
• Pile snow in a place where it will not run across your sidewalk when it melts and aim your downspouts away from areas where people walk.
• Pursuant to section 507 of the City of Kimberley Streets and Traffic Amendment Bylaw No. 2582, 2017, snow and ice cleared from your sidewalk or driveway onto a city street or sidewalk is not permitted. Putting snow out onto the City street or sidewalk can become a public safety concern.

Snow Hauling

Please give city staff room to operate during snow removal. In areas where snow piles are to be hauled away, the city will post temporary “No Parking” signs in the afternoon the day before snow hauling commences.  Vehicles will be towed if they do not comply with the signage. City crews are working as quickly as possible to clear the streets, while following the city’s Snow and Ice Management Plan.

Bylaw Reminders

The Bylaw Enforcement Officer would like to remind residents that angle parking is not permitted in the City of Kimberley, unless otherwise posted. Angle parking impedes snow plowing and narrows the traveled portion of the street, which obstructs the safe passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Animal Control Officer would like to remind dog owners that your dog must be on leash at all times within the City of Kimberley, except for when you are using the designated off leash areas. Non-compliance with section 20 of the Animal Control Bylaw No. 2544, 2016 may result in a fine of $75.00 for a first offence and $150 for each subsequent offence. The Kimberley Nature Park, Lois Creek Trails and the Marysville Flats are all designated off-leash spaces to exercise your furry friends. Maintaining control and cleaning up after your dog still applies in these three off-leash areas. View the Animal Control Bylaw.

Non-Instructional Day Camp

On Friday, February 15, bring your kids to the Aquatic Centre for a day of fun! This includes indoor and outdoor adventures, swimming, crafts and games! For children five to 11 years of age from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. The cost is $47 per day or $55 per day for children under seven, or for swimmers that require supervision. There is a minimum of eight registrants required to run the camp, so register today. Free Public Swim

Come to the Aquatic Centre and enjoy a free public swim on Wednesday, February 6 from 6 to 7 p.m. sponsored by FortisBC.
