Brownbag Lunch with Mayor McCormick
On Wednesday, February 13, and on the second Wednesday of each month, City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick will host a brown-bag luncheon at City Hall from noon until 1:30 p.m. Bring your own lunch and have a discussion with the Mayor.
Family Day Closure
City Hall, Public Works and the Marysville Arena will be closed for BC Family Day on Monday, February 18. The Aquatic Centre will be open for a public swim from 1 to 4 p.m.
Commercial waste that would have been picked up on Monday, February 18 will be picked up on Tuesday, February 19. Happy Family Day weekend from all city staff!
Building Code Information Session
The City of Kimberley is inviting building construction and design professionals to a free information session about recent changes to the BC Building & Plumbing Codes and the Kimberley Building Bylaw. The session will begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13 at the Kimberley Conference Centre. The session will involve an overview presentation of key topics most relevant to our region and ample opportunities for questions and discussion. Feeding Deer
The Bylaw Officer has been receiving several complaints of residents feeding deer in residential neighbourhoods. Did you know this is in contravention of the City of Kimberley Deer Feeding Bylaw No. 2296, 2006? Fines up to $500 can be issued to anyone caught feeding deer. Deer are often left foods that are unhealthy for their diets. This causes harm to the deer and leads to digestive upset, and potentially even death. Frozen Water Line Prevention
If theĀ water service line to your homeĀ has ever frozen or you have noticedĀ a reduced water flow in your home during the winter, leave one tap running cold water day and night (stream should be theĀ size of a pencil). This will help to prevent your lines from freezing.Ā Since frost sinks deeper into the ground when air temperatures rise after a period of extreme cold, you will need to keep the water running 24/7 until mid-April to avoid having the lineĀ freeze.
The city encourages residents who have experienced frozen water service lines in the past to be pro-active by ensuring indoor lines are properly insulated, keeping a good snow cover over the ground above the service lines and installing a bleeder line system. For more information
Frozen Sewer Lines
To aid in preventing frozen sewer lines, it is important to run hot water through your sewage system once per day when we are experiencing cold temperatures. If you suspect your sewer line to be freezing, fill your bathtub one quarter full of hot water then release the water to thaw the sewer line (while monitoring for possible backup in the line). Control the release of the water with the drain plug. This may need to be repeated one or two times, and possibly every day or two to ensure the line does not freeze. Performing a load or two of laundry each day using hot water will also help to reduce freezing issues.Ā Please contact a plumber if you have attempted this and nothing is draining or changing.
Non-Instructional Day Camp
On Friday, February 15th, bring your kids to the Aquatic Centre for a day of fun! This includes indoor and outdoor adventures, swimming, crafts and games! For children five to 11 years of age from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The cost is $47 per day or $55 per day for children under seven, or for swimmers that require supervision. There is a minimum of eight registrants required to run the camp, so register today. FREE Downtown Shuttle
The Peak to Platzl downtown shuttle is a FREE scheduled service between the ski resort base area, the upper-mountain accommodations, and the downtown shops, pubs and restaurants. The shuttle service operates every day (except statutory holidays) until closing weekend of the ski season. On weekdays, for $6 return trip from Cranbrook, you can catch the KC Commuter bus for a worry free day on the slopes! The shuttle is jointly funded by the participating businesses, the City of Kimberley, Tourism Kimberley, the Kimberley Alpine Resort, BC Transit, andĀ the Province of BC Resort Municipality Initiative.
