Family Day Closure
City Hall, Public Works and the Marysville Arena will be closed for BC Family Day on Monday, February 18. The Aquatic Centre will be open for a free public swim from 1 to 4 p.m. The free swim is sponsored by the Province of British Columbia.
Commercial waste that would have been picked up on Monday, February 18 will be picked up on Tuesday, February 19. Happy Family Day weekend from all city staff!
2019 Dog Licenses
City of Kimberley 2019 dog licenses are on sale at City Hall, please licence your dog if you have not already done so. The cost for a spayed or neutered dog license is $23 and $57.50 for an unaltered dog license. The fines for an unlicensed dog are as follows: $100 for the first offence, and $200 for each subsequent offence. Please help our Animal Control Officer make sure your pet gets home without a trip to the SPCA.
2019 Business Licences
The city kindly requests that Business Licences as soon as possible. Application forms for new businesses are available at City Hall or on the city’s website. With our Inter-Community Business Licenses, Mobile businesses can operate in Kimberley and Cranbrook without having to apply for businesses licences from both municipalities. For more information on fees and who can apply, please view the full bylaw on our website.
If you no longer require your Dog Licence or Business Licence, or need to update your contact information for these, please contact City Hall at 250-427-5311.
Angle Parking
The city would like to remind residents that angle parking is not permitted in the City of Kimberley, unless otherwise posted. Angle parking impedes snow plowing and narrows the traveled portion of the street, which obstructs the safe passage of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. Thank you for your cooperation.
Snow and Ice Management Plan
This plan is revised annually with incremental improvements, and is a guide to the city’s snow and ice control policies intended to advise the public, council, and city staff of when and how snow and ice will be dealt with by the Operations Department. Snow Hauling
Please give city staff room to operate during snow removal. In areas where snow piles are to be hauled away, the city will post temporary “No Parking” signs in the afternoon the day before snow hauling commences. Vehicles will be towed if they do not comply with the signage. City crews are working as quickly as possible to clear the streets, while following the city’s Snow and Ice Management Plan.
Snow Piles Around the City
We would like to remind residents of the dangers of children sliding on snow piles that accumulate from plowing and scraping the roads, especially the ones around Mark Creek. The water moves quickly in the creek and the ice is always changing, creating a dangerous area. The snow is often heavy and full of ice chunks, which can also cause injury. Please remind your children that these snow piles are not a safe place to be playing.
Public Skating
Public skating is in full swing at both the Civic Centre and the Marysville Arena. Lifesaving Society’s Standard First Aid/CPR-C Course
March 26, 27 and 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The recommended age is 15 years or older. Candidates must attend all dates and times and bring your own pocket mask. Free Family Swim
Come to the Aquatic Centre and enjoy a Free Family Swim on Wednesday, February 20 from 6 to 7 p.m., sponsored by Tyee Homes. Remember, persons 18 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
