Sidewalk Cafe Licenses

It’s that time of year to submit a renewal agreement for Downtown Sidewalk Café Patios. Forms can be found on the City of Kimberley’s website or are available for pick up at City Hall front reception area. If you are thinking about installing a sidewalk patio for your downtown restaurant, please contact [email protected] for more information.

Public Works Week

Please join us for an open house at the Public Works Yard located at 250 Knighton Road on Thursday, May 23 from 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. This is a kid-friendly event and everyone is welcome to attend. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served for lunch starting at 11 a.m.  National Public Works Week (May 19-25) is to help increase public awareness of the contributions made by Public Works professionals who maintain and improve the systems and services vital to a community’s health, safety, and comfort.

Mark Creek Dam Tours

If you have you ever wanted to get up close and personal with our watershed, here is your chance! To celebrate Drinking Water Week and in conjunction with Public Works Day, two Mark Creek Dam guided walking tours will be held on Thursday, May 23. The morning tour runs from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. and the afternoon tour runs from 12- 3 p.m. You must be physically able to walk for the duration of the tour (one hour) and please wear suitable clothing and sturdy footwear. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to learn more about our water! This is a free event and we welcome community members to attend. If you would like to join in, please contact Operations at 250-427-9660. There are a limited number of available seats, so call now to reserve your spot.

Spring Yard Clean Up

This year the clean up starts on May 6 and ends on May 16. The schedule is as follows for regular garbage picked up on:

Tuesdays: Yard waste pick up is on Monday, May 6 or Monday, May 13.

Wednesdays: Yard waste pick up is on Tuesday, May 7 or Tuesday, 14.

Thursdays: Yard waste pick up is on Wednesday, May 8 or Wednesday, May 15.

Fridays: Yard waste pick up is on Thursday, May 9 or Thursday, May 16.

Cemetery Care-taking

The Parks Department kindly reminds anyone placing floral offerings on grave spaces that, except immediately after interment, the following conditions will apply:

Flowers only. Natural or artificial may be placed in grave space containers, provided the container is part of the memorial. Flowers placed on grave spaces may be removed by city staff while performing maintenance duties. Flowers will be disposed of at the discretion of city staff when the condition of the flowers is considered detrimental to the beauty of the cemetery.

Floral offerings, wreaths, or ornamental monuments may be placed at the grave space, provided they are free standing and are not staked into the ground. If they are staked into the ground, they will be removed by city staff and disposed of.

The use of wood, glass, porcelain, pottery, or other breakable containers, either above or below the ground is prohibited.

Unattached Trailers

The Bylaw Enforcement Officer would like to remind residents that unattached trailers are not permitted to be parked on the streets. This is in contravention of the City of Kimberley Streets and Traffic Bylaw No. 1877, 1995. To view this bylaw please visit our website at http://bit.ly/2NnlGHj

No Unauthorized Vehicles in The Platzl

Please be reminded that the Platzl is for pedestrian use only. There is no motor vehicle access permitted unless authorized by the City of Kimberley.

Dogs at the Civic Centre Walking Track

Civic Centre staff would like to remind users of the walking track that dogs are not permitted in the building. If your dog is a registered service animal, it is welcome in the building, but only under that circumstance. Thank you for your cooperation.

Platzl Flowerbeds

The flowerbeds in the Platzl add colour and vibrancy to the downtown core. Please do not allow your children to play in the flowerbeds and please refrain from letting dogs use the beds as washrooms.

Free Public Swim

Come to the Aquatic Centre and enjoy a free public swim on Wednesday, May 1 from 5 to 6 p.m. sponsored by Bootleg Gap Golf Course.
