Notes from City Hall

Brownbag Lunch with Mayor McCormick

On Wednesday, June 12, and on the second Wednesday of each month, Mayor Don McCormick will host a brown-bag luncheon at City Hall from noon until 1:30 p.m. Bring your own lunch and have a discussion with the Mayor.

Arena Ice Allocation Meeting

All organizations/groups requesting to utilize the City of Kimberley Civic Centre and/or Marysville Arena’s ice for the 2019-2020 season are to attend the ice allocation meeting. This will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at 6 p.m. at the Kimberley Aquatic Centre. If you have any questions, please call the Operations Desk at 250-427-9660 or email [email protected].

Watering Reminder

Recent reports of hot and dry weather conditions anticipated for this summer requires all residents to be diligent about water usage. Watering must be done between the hours of 4 to 10 a.m. AND 6 to 10 p.m. Residents of properties with odd-numbered addresses will water only on odd-numbered days and residents of properties with even-numbered addresses will water only on even-numbered days. Please view the city’s Water Shortage Response Bylaw for more information.

Pets and Hot Weather

With the weather warming up, the Bylaw Officer would like to remind people not to leave your pets in vehicles. Animals confined in an unventilated vehicle can quickly succumb to the high temperatures and die of heat stroke. Please leave your animals at home where they will be more comfortable. The MTI Bylaw No. 2540, Animal Control Schedule 2 Section 10, allows for a $150 fine for animals left in an enclosed space unventilated vehicle. Let’s keep our dogs safe this summer!

Building a new Home?

The City of Kimberley has recently updated the Building Bylaw and the Energy Efficient Building Incentive Program. All new homes with building permits issued after January 1, 2019 will receive a $500 discount on the permit fee to offset the cost of a pre-construction energy assessment of the building plans and to ensure the project meets the minimum requirements for Step 2 of the BC Energy Step Code. Each project will receive a further rebate of $250 upon completion of a mid-construction air tightness test that will help to ensure that the project is on track to meet or exceed the minimum energy performance requirements. Please visit our website at http://bit.ly/2QKNi8v or contact the Building Inspector at 250-427-9655 or [email protected] for more details.
