Rock ‘n roll with Red Cannons at Studio 64
By Mike Redfern
Kimberley Arts Council’s 2016 ‘Live at Studio 64’ spring concert series will rock to a finish May 28 when The Red Cannons come to town.
This quartet of young musicians form Stoney Plain and Spruce Grove, Alberta, have been lighting up the Edmonton and Western Alberta rock ‘n roll scene since the release of their debut recording, ‘Underneath the Floorboards’ in 2013. Their second album is due out this spring.
The band comprises the three Boechler brothers, Evan on rhythm guitar/vocals, Braden on lead guitar/vocals, Landon on drums/vocals, and their long-time friend, Jen Perry on bass/vocals. Their first single, ‘Underneath the Floorboards’, inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s The Telltale Heart, garnered great revues. It was described as “fun, hard-hitting, bluesy, with catchy hooks.”
The band has been described as playing “catchy modern rock”, providing “infectious live shows”. For this final cabaret-style concert in this year’s spring series, the Live at Studio 64 committee will create space for dancing.
The concert starts at 8 p.m. with the doors open at 7:30 for seating and bar service. Advance tickets, available at Centre 64 (250-427-4919) and online at eastkootenaysnapd.com, are $22 for KAC-C64 members, $24 for non-members. Tickets at the door are $26. Might be worth getting yours early as there’s likely to be a full house.
Of interest to art-lovers will be the final opportunity to bid on the artworks by Helen Robertson adorning the walls of Studio 64. The silent auction that has been running since the opening spring concert closes that Saturday during the concert when the winning bids will be announced by Live at Studio 64 chair, Keith Nicholas.
