Who would expect an evening about climate change to be so interesting and positive?
That is our impression of the event that the East Kootenay chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) co-hosted with the Kootenay Youth Action Network (KYAN) Environmental Action Team and the City of Kimberley. It happened on February 12 at Centre 64 and was titled: ‘Climate Solutions.’
The event was attended by all Kimberley city council members, a number of youth as well as the public. Laura Sacks, the featured speaker and co-leader for CCL in British Columbia, spoke to the current science and framed solutions as opportunities to create the resiliency that we all benefit from. We all greatly appreciated the excellent community dialogue that followed.
We also thank KYAN Environmental Action Team for hosting an event at Selkirk Secondary School on Feb. 11 for the entire student body. It is clear from the breadth of questions asked that many of the students think a lot about this complex issue. We look forward to continued dialogue in our community about how we can collectively work on climate solutions.
