Taft hosting coffee meeting in Kimberley
Candidate for Columbia River-Revelstoke BC NDP nomination Gerry Taft will be hosting a casual coffee meeting in Kimberley on Tuesday, June 14.
Taft, the current Mayor of the District of Invermere and Director for the Regional District of East Kootenay, is seeking to replace MLA Norm Macdonald in Columbia River-Revelstoke as candidate for the 2017 provincial election.
“I launched my bid for the NDP nomination only a week ago, and the response from across the constituency has been overwhelming,” said Taft. “I’ve been as far as Revelstoke to meet with members, and I’ve spoken to many people by phone, and while people are sad to see Norm go, they are ready to support a candidate that they know will beat the BC Liberals in Columbia River-Revelstoke.”
Taft is reminding all his supporters that if you want to be part of choosing the next NDP candidate for this area, you must be a member of the BCNDP in good standing for 90 days prior to the nominating convention, which will occur in the fall.
“I’ve been selling everyone memberships. When I get stopped on the street by people passing on their congratulations, I tell them this is only the first step. They need to become a member so that they can vote in the nominating convention.”
Taft says he is looking forward to having some good face-to-face conversations with people in Kimberley who want to make sure that the NDP holds this seat in the next election.
“Join us for coffee at The Bean Tree. It’s time to get started as we prepare to win the next election,” he said.
Taft will be at the Bean Tree between 2 – 4 p.m. The Bean Tree is located in Kimberley’s Platzl.
Another Invermere resident and former district councillor, Spring Hawes, who served with Taft on council, is running for the BC NDP candidacy in the riding.
Fairmont Hot Springs’ Doug Clovechok has already captured the BC Liberal candidacy for the riding.
