Sunday fire appears to be human caused
A Sunday afternoon fire off Kootenay Road No. 3 appears to be human-caused, reports Columbia Valley RCMP.
On September 24 at about 2 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP received a request to assist the Windermere Fire Department with a fire on the ?akisqnuk First Nation. RCMP responded to the report and once on scene observed that the fire, which was roughly three to five acres in size, and contained mostly to a large grass field, had already been extinguished by the brave women and men of the Windermere Fire Department and provincial firefighters who were already in the area, reported Sgt. Bob Vatamaniuck, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
“Although the damage to the area was minimal the fire appeared to be human caused and likely originated at the eastern side of the property near Kootenay Road No. 3, as that was where the most heavily burned section appeared to be,” he said.
There was no property damage nor any monetary damage to speak of, but the fire did threaten property and could have easily got out of control, he added.
RCMP is asking that if anyone has any information about this fire, and who may be responsible, to call the detachment or contact Crimestoppers.
