Ktunaxa Nation page added to e-KNOW
Today (June 21) is National Aboriginal Day in Canada.
It is also a day in which East Kootenay News Online Weekly (e-KNOW) has completed its community coverage picture by adding a fifth community page – for the Ktunaxa Nation.
“Since our inception in 2011, we have covered all four of the major areas in the East Kootenay – Columbia Valley, Cranbrook, Elk Valley and Kimberley and have also covered news and events on Ktunaxa Nation land. However, that news has always been lumped into the closest East Kootenay area, until this week. We are pleased to announce that moving forward e-KNOW will have a dedicated page to the Ktunaxa Nation and its member bands,” said e-KNOW publisher and owner Carrie Schafer.
“In our very first few brush strokes with e-KNOW we identified the need to include the Ktunaxa Nation as a key community but had to lay the groundwork, with the Ktunaxa Nation itself, members of the communities and to generate enough material on the website,” explained e-KNOW editor and owner Ian Cobb.
“The band communities are all quite small in population so the volume of news and informational material that comes from them can be limited. Between that and the need to upgrade our website (which was done a few months ago) to handle the traffic and content volume, we are finally at that point. We are proud to be the first media outlet to rightfully include our First Nations neighbours as an equal part of the big picture we aim to present every day,” he added.
“That being said, we invite all members of the Ktunaxa Nation – on and off reserve – to utilize the Ktunaxa page to reach out to their fellow community members, whether it be through promotion of upcoming events, highlighting achievements, sharing views, feature stories on community members, arts, heritage and culture; you name it; we welcome it,” Cobb said.

A formal announcement of this new partnership, between e-KNOW, Genex Marketing the Ktunaxa Nation, with many thanks to Jesse Nicholas, will be made at today’s Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Heritage Inn.
