Step into Spring fundraiser March 11

CHR Dinner Dance to raise funds for second family

The Cranbrook Hub for Refugees is springing into action, preparing for their dinner/dance fundraiser on Saturday, March 11 at the Colombo Lodge.

The decorating committee has chosen a bright ‘spring’ theme to chase our long winter blues away. The evening is promising to be entertainment packed with a 50/50 draw, a Silent Auction, live music provided by The NoteAbles and dancing to ‘The Choice.’

Ticket sales are going well but there is always room for more people at the Colombo Lodge! Tickets are $35 per adult, $12 ages six to 12, and children five and under are free. They are available at Lotus Books and Top Crop Garden Centre.

CHR successfully settled a family of five from Ethiopia in July, 2016 and is now committed to supporting a second family.

The Cranbrook Hub for Refugees was formed in November 2015 when floods of people were fleeing the war in Syria. While the Syrian crisis is still foremost in the media, there are millions of other refugees in need in the world. According to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) there are over 65 million displaced persons. The average length of time that a refugee family spends in a camp is 17 years. The CHR is giving another family a chance for a new beginning here in Canada.
