ICE general manager Jeff Chynoweth yesterday announced the club has acquired 18-year-old forward Ryan Chynoweth from the Tri-City Americans in exchange for a fifth round draft pick in either the 2014 or 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

Ryan, who is Chynoweth’s son, was the 24th selection in the 2010 Bantam Draft by the Everett Silvertips and was traded to the Americans last season.

“Ryan will complement our existing age group of 1995 born players. He adds versatility playing either wing or center, and is one of only three left shot forwards on our team,” explained father Chynoweth.

Listed at 6’1”, 175 lb., Ryan assembled a goal and three assists in 33 games for the Americans last season, along with a -9 and 41 penalty minutes. In three games so far this year he has one assist and four PIMs.

Ryan Tweeted (@R Chynoweth) last night, “Would like to thank the ‪@TCAmericans for one of the best years of my life. A world-class organization. Gonna miss everyone!”

The ICE now have 24 players, including two goaltenders, eight defenseman and 14 forwards. The club has yet to post a win, falling twice to the Red Deer Rebels in a home-and-home start to the 2013/14 WHL season.

The next home action for the ICE will be Friday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes (0-2) and Saturday night (Sept. 28) against the Regina Pats (1-2).

Both games at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook begin at 7 p.m.
