Descheneau named to Team WHL

Kootenay ICE sniper Jaedon Descheneau was yesterday named to the Western Hockey League (WHL) team taking part in the 2014 SUBWAY® Super Series against Team Russia.

Held in collaboration with the Canadian Hockey League, the Saskatoon Blades and the Brandon Wheat Kings, the annual WHL portion of the tourney will be held in Saskatoon, Nov. 10, and continue Nov. 11 with Game two in Brandon.

The OHL will host Games three and four while the QMJHL will conclude the series as hosts for Games five and six.

Team WHL’s roster will boast a number of NHL prospects including 2014 NHL Draft first round selections Jake Virtanen (Vancouver Canucks – #6 overall), Haydn Fleury (Carolina Hurricanes – #7 overall), Travis Sanheim (Philadelphia Flyers, #17 overall), Conner Bleackley (Colorado Avalanche, #23 overall) and John Quenneville (New Jersey Devils, #30 overall).

This year, Team WHL will be coached by 2014 WHL Coach of the Year Dave Lowry (Victoria Royals) who will also serve as an assistant coach for Team Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. Kelly McCrimmon (Brandon Wheat Kings) will be the assistant coach for Team WHL.
