Golden Reinhart returns to ICE lineup

Kootenay ICE star centre Sam Reinhart returned to the Western Hockey League club’s lineup Friday, Jan. 9 for a home tilt against the Red Deer Rebels.

Reinhart helped Team Canada capture gold at the recent World Junior Hockey Championship held in Montreal and Toronto. An assistant captain on the all-star team, Reinhart anchored Canada’s top line with wingers Max Domi and Anthony Duclair. He finished the tourney with five goals and six assists, good for the co-lead in scoring, along with fellow Team Canada players Connor McDavid and Nic Petan.

ICE defender Rinat Valiev played a steady game for Russian. Valiev was unavailable for Friday’s game due to illness. While Reinhart’s achievement was celebrated Jan. 9 with a pre-game mention, a more formal acknowledgement will made later in the season.

Canada’s thrilling gold medal 5-4 win over Russia set a TSN/RDS viewership record (all-time for the tourney) with 7.1 million people tuning in.

Despite having Reinhart back in the line, the ICE fell 3-1 to the Rebels Friday night. The club also fell to the Saskatoon Blades last night, 6-4.
