It’s seasonal sport crossover time
It’s that magical time of year when the East Kootenay’s tourism season features skiing and golf at the same time, in some locations.
The Columbia Valley, with its wealth of golf courses and a ski-hill that is ‘positioned just so’ – allowing a later season – means one can ski/board in the morning and golf in the afternoon.
Windermere Valley Golf Course opened for play last week (March 10) and Panorama Mountain Resort’s downhill season wraps April 10 – allowing for one month of winter/summer recreation fun.
If 18 holes is too much; give the quick and easy nine-hole Setetkwa Golf Course a try and brush up on your short game. Odds are if Windermere is open, ‘the cow’ was open sooner!
Riverside Golf Course in Fairmont Hot Springs is set to open March 25 for the season. Conditions are great already, course management says.

In the Elk Valley, thanks to elevation, there is no opportunity to ski and golf on the same day – but it’s close.
Fernie Alpine Resort’s winter season closing date is April 10 and the Fernie Golf and Country Club reopen for the season in May. However, if you can’t wait that long, the Sparwood Golf Club opens for play April 13.
Kimberley Alpine Resort’s final day of downhill fun is Sunday, April 3, and again, thanks to elevation, one cannot slide off the hill and head to one of Kimberley’s three excellent golf courses.
The Kimberley Golf Club’s tentative opening day is April 15. Bootleg Gap Golf Course opens for play April 22 and Trickle Creek Golf Course opens for play about the first week of May.
Cranbrook’s Wildstone Golf Club opens April 15, Shadow Mountain Golf Course opens for play April 16 and St. Eugene Golf Resort also opens April 16.
Cranbrook Golf Club’s opening date is tentative – usually in early April.
