Booth keeping busy on campaign trail

Start a campaign for re-election, add a few out-of-town meetings, blend in work as the current Electoral Area F Director and heat that up with a few unresolved local issues and two young Labrador puppies at home. Sound like a recipe for stress?

“Oh, it’s busy!” declares Wendy Booth, Area F’s incumbent director. “But, I love the job and, besides, it keeps life exciting.”

Since the election was called October 10, Booth has organized her signage and election materials, held “coffee and conversation” casual sessions in different locales with constituents, addressed a public candidate’s forum, published responses to the local newspaper’s weekly candidate questions, attended the Columbia Basin Trust trans-border conference in Spokane, Washington, as well as Regional District of East Kootenay board and committee meetings.

Between these, Booth has walked the streets of her communities, knocking on doors and chatting with constituents, even in poor weekend weather, with the intent of being elected to a third term as regional director.

“Getting real-life feedback at the door is essential,” says Booth. “Not only do you spread your own message, but you have a opportunity to listen to those you represent, one on one, and see issues for their personal perspective. It reminds you that you have an impact.”

After voting on Saturday, November 15, Booth says she intends to spend the day with her husband Finn and their two almost-trained female puppies, Lib and Bel. “While I am excited about this campaign,” confides Booth, “the girls are even more crazy!”
