maryLightfoot, Mary Cecelia, (nee Adams)

Aug 7, 1915 – Jul 19, 2014

Mary Lightfoot was born Mary Cecelia Adams on the 7th August 1915, in Ladybrand, South Africa.  Her twin brother did not survive.

Mary died on 19 July 2014 at nearly 99 years of age.  She was pre-deceased by her younger brother, Naimie, her daughter, Rosemary and her husband Victor Lightfoot (Sr).  She is survived by her younger sister Sadie Cusick [96 years old, living in Windhoek, Namibia], son Cliff Lightfoot (Florence), daughter Marian Tate and son Vic Lightfoot (Janet).  Other family members are grandchildren Tracey Kelly (S. Africa), Janine Davies (Mike) and Heath Lightfoot (Nicole), Brandon Tate, David Tate, Miranda Carriere (Brian),  Great grandchildren include Gregory and Christopher Kelly (S. Africa, ), Kyle, Shane, and Shanae Hunt, Kirsch and Aurum Lightfoot, Ava and Cameron Carriere.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank ‘adopted’ family members, Barb Pedersen, and her children, Jon (Ashley), Jeremy (My Le), Danny and Jesse for their love and support.

Mary was raised in Bloemfontein and Kimberly, South Africa.  The Spanish Flu took her mother away from her at age 3.  Her family was blended with another bereaved family.  Due to difficult circumstances Mary found herself, at a young age, along with her younger brother and sister, being raised in a Catholic convent.

Mary married Victor Lightfoot Sr. in Johannesberg, SA on October 12, 1942;.Mary and her family moved to Uranium City, SK, in Canada in 1976, later moving to Port Coquitlam, BC, and Port Moody.  Their next move took them to Campbell River, BC on Vancouver Island, before coming to the East Kootenays in 1998.

Mary was a little lady with a big heart.  For sixty years she valued her privilege to help many in the communities where she lived to come to know the Bible’s hope for a secure future by means of Jehovah God’s Kingdom.

A memorial service was conducted at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Cranbrook, B. C. at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014.
